Lexus LFA is finally here at the. All of which makes it harder to stomach that the car shown here isn't expected to reach customer garages until early 2011. The specifications of the new rear-drive Lexus supercar are impressive enough: a 4. 8-liter v10 with 560 ps (552 bhp), 354 lb-ft torque, a zingy 9,000 rpm redline, six-speed sequential gearbox, 0-62 mph in 3. 7 seconds, and a top speed of 202 mph. It looks amazing too, both in. Gallery: see Lexus lf-a photos.

Lexus LFA is capable of 202 mph. But here are 10 things we bet you don't know. Two separate ducts route intake noise into the firewall from the intake manifold, allowing two different octaves of engine music to penetrate the passenger compartment. As a result, the LFA's engine note dominates the driving experience. Developed in conjunction with Yamaha's musical instrument division, engineers tuned the LFA's engine note the same way sound is tuned in an ovation guitar. Uniquely shaped ribs in the intake manifold cover are designed precisely to produce a pleasing engine note.

Lexus LFA Supercar

Lexus LFA is powered by a bespoke, high-revving 552bhp 4. 8-liter naturally aspirated v10 engine, matched to a rear-mounted six-speed sequential automatic transmission, giving 200mph-plus performance. In the words of chief engineer Haruhiko Tanahashi: "the Lexus LFA is a thoroughbred supercar, a machine engineered to achieve a single goal - to deliver a supreme driving experience. Over the past decade we have pushed every boundary in pursuit of this goal and i believe we have created the most driver-orientated car we possibly could. Keeping the car's weight to an absolute minimum was one of the defining elements in the development of the Lexus LFA and this led to the decision to switch from using aluminum for the car's construction to advanced carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) for the chassis and bodywork. Moreover, Lexus decided the CFRP structure should be built in-house rather than by a third-party supplier. In doing so, it drew on Toyota motor corporation's heritage in textile weaving technology to push the boundaries of its technical abilities, developing new carbon fiber looms and a laser system for monitoring the integrity of the material.

Lexus LFA is the powerplant, which consists of a high-revving, mid-mounted, 552 horsepower, 4. 8-liter v10 engine mated to a six-speed paddle-shifted transmission, giving the LFA a top speed of 202 mph. Power will be routed strictly to the rear wheels, and carbon-ceramic brakes ensure the car's ability to stop on a dime. The interior seats two, and is finished with carbon fiber accents, a futuristic floating center console, and some of the coolest gauges this side of Aston Martin. Lexus is taking orders for the LFA beginning today, with a price tag of around $350,000 - $375,000, depending on options. A fairly steep price, but considering its rarity, could instantly turn into a collector car. Check out the photo gallery below.
