BMW already has begun conceptual design and early development work on the successor to the Z4 roadster, which is due to go into production in South Carolina in late 2009. An artist's conception is shown here.
The Z4's replacement may be dubbed Z6, according to European trade publications, and will use components from the BMW 3-Series and 1- Series families. BMW once again is expected to produce both convertible and hardtop variants of the two-seater, as well as high-performance M editions.
Inline six-cylinder engines will be upgraded, as will other major mechanical systems.
